Stuff of Late

Nate is doing great in Washington.  He's been in Vancouver for three months, and hopes to stay there at least one more transfer.  Nate is currently staying with members (the Boyles).  Sister Boyle was recently in Salt Lake so we were fortunate to visit with her a while.  It's easy to see how much she and her husband love the missionaries!

We did a little remodeling on the hall bathroom.  Here's a before and after picture.  It was nice to have Spencer there to help out.

Last but not least, Kristi, Josh and Liz, Spencer and Nate totally surprised me with tickets to see the Blue Man Group in Vegas.  I've wanted to see them for a while.  It'll be a boy's outing - Spencer, Josh and I will be taking a quick road trip in a couple of weeks.

Canoe Camping

A couple of weekends ago the family went camping at the end of one of the fingers of Causey Reservoir in Weber Canyon.  Great fun!  We loaded the canoes (oh yeah, we were sitting low in the water!) and paddled in for an hour to our spot.

We saw two rattlesnakes the first day.  Kristi, spencer and I saw the first one; about a five footer.  We watched it as it slithered off the trail and into the brush.  Liz saw the other one while she was alone in camp.  Kristi, spencer, Josh and I were out on the reservoir.  When we got back to camp she told us the story - walking along a trail, yellow and black colored snake, heard the rattle, jumped a mile.  Kristi and I found her "snake" the next day...see it biting her foot?

Spencer spent the night outside in his sleeping bag by the fire.  The first night it didn't work so well.  A while after the pouring rain began, he jumped into the teeny tiny tent with Josh and Liz.  Cozy.  We looked like a hillbilly camp in the morning as we dried everything out.

Spencer had a nice night by the fire the next night.  Waking up and getting out of the warm bag is tough.

The fishing was decent.  Josh was the chef.  Spencer ate his fish, Kristi ate hers, and Josh ate the rest.

Dropping Nate off at the MTC

After a nice breakfast, we drove down to Provo to drop Nate off at the MTC.  Spencer couldn't go with us because he was coaching at a basketball camp in Cedar City, but Josh was able to come down from Logan.

We parked across the street from the MTC to take pictures before doing the actual drop-off.

With the new drop-off procedures, you just pull into the entrance, you're directed to the next open spot at the curb, pull out the luggage, say bye, and drive away.  You're supposed to keep the good-byes to two minutes.  Not much time to take pictures since you're doing the last-minute hugs and saying good-bye.  It's kind of like dropping off curbside at the airport.  Here's the one pic we got at the curb.  Good luck Nate!  We love you.

Open House for Nate

We had an open house for Nate Friday night.  Lots of goodies to eat, including some cute tie cookies made by Nate's girlfriend Kylie.  Tons of people came to say bye to Nate before he leaves on June 10.  He gave his farewell talk yesterday and did a great job!  Heard on the news today that there are three confirmed cases of the swine flu in the MTC.  Family will not be allowed to go into the MTC.  Instead, they will just drop off their missionaries and say good-bye at the door.  I don't know if that's good or bad.  Well, here are a bunch of pics from the open house.
